Chemistry of Life

This short course covers the basic chemistry principles needed for studying Anatomy & Physiology. This course contains text information, short videos, and 150-plus exam questions to help retain and understand this subject.

It starts with an introduction to the field of chemistry. It covers the parts of atoms, major elements of the human body, atomic number, mass number, and different types of chemical bonds (ionic, covalent, hydrogen).

Next, it covers chemical reactions and energy, synthesis and decomposition reactions, anabolism, catabolism, endergonic and exergonic reactions, kinetic and potential energy examples and reactions, catalysts, enzyme structure, reactions and control of enzyme reactions, inorganic chemistry in regards to water, properties of water and waters role in biochemistry, acids, and bases, pH scale interpretation.

Finally, this course ends with organic chemistry. The study of synthesis and hydrolysis reactions, the different types of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
